It has been 3 years now....Dawn your memory lives on because of who you were...a gentle soul, who was always kind to others! You are missed so much!  Wishing you happiness in heaven as you become one of God's angels to watch over your loved ones.

A soul went to Heaven!  I knew Dawn through years of working with BCPS and our adventures in outdoor ed. She was many times the guide who would take us on treks into meadows, forests, and shorelines and every second loved what she did.  She left a lasting impression every time we visited  and she was always so filled with joy of teaching and just being with people.  I'm so sorry the earth lost a dear, dear person, yet am comforted to know the universe gained back a gentle, sweet lovely soul to watch over us.  Blessings and peace to you; her living loved ones. 

Dawn was the second grade teacher for  both my boys and we adored her. Dawn told me about her trip to Africa when she saw elephant in the night which forced her to run through the woods. Dawn was a wonderful teacher and mother. Dawn told me about her precious Benjamin a lot. I actually met him briefly at her office. She always lit up talking about him. He made her world! Dawn’s body may have failed, but she is right here watching me type. She watches her son and loved ones every day.   Please know that when something brings Dawn to mind, she is near checking in/sending love. She is well again.  I’m not real sure how hard it is for a spirit/soul to get a message to us here,  but this gal will get the job done. So keep looking for things that bring her to mind. Talk to her.  Dawn, I know you didn't want your path to end, but please know your life was  a job well done.  And Benjamin, make mom proud.

I absolutely loved Dawn!  I am teacher in Baltimore County Public Schools.  When I taught fifth grade, we had a field experience called Eco-Trekkers during which the students would visit Marshy Point and Miami Beach to study habitats.  I always enjoyed the habitat that we studied wherever Dawn was the teacher.  She was always a breath of fresh air and had an innate ability to connect with the students, especially those who could be oppositional or easily distracted.  Dawn was exceptional at her job.  I will definitely miss her!

Dawn will always be remembered as a lighthearted woman who was caring for all things- human, animal, and in nature.  She had a beautiful spirit.  Her deep laugh warmed by heart.  Rest in peace my friend.  

Dear Benjamin, I was lucky enough to know and work alongside your mom for over 15 years. She never called her job “work” because she loved it so much. Everyday she got to explore nature with students. I can remember every so often after the students would leave our site and I would say to your mom, “wow, that was a challenging group of students.” She would smile and say, “Really? I thought they were a terrific group.” Your mom was a skilled enough educator to be able to pick out the students that were scared of nature and by the end of the day with her, she was usually able to help them to overcome that fear. 

I was also lucky enough to be by her side as she found the love of her life…you! Boy did she ever light up when she spoke about you. She had some pretty impressive self-control because I think she would go on about you all day if she could. She would talk about how smart you are, your good looks, your athleticism, your compassion (I think you got that from her), your dancing and so much more. Everyone that knew your mom (and even those that didn’t know her like the guy in Home Depot, the waitress, the mail man) knew that you were the single most important thing in her life. 

There were a lot of things I loved about your mom: her self-confidence, her love of travel, her lack of inhibition when it came to singing and dancing in front of other people (no thank you!), her ability to seek out the student most uncomfortable and build up their self-confidence, her terrible fake accents which always made me laugh,  her random acts of kindness to strangers and those not as fortunate as her, but what I loved most of all was her laughter. When I heard your mom laugh it came from her soul. 

I know you will have some tough days ahead. Your mom was an incredible person and you will miss her. We all miss her. A lot. On those difficult days, try to listen to her laughter in your head. My hope is that it brings a smile to your face like it does to mine.

While working in the Office of Science, I had the pleasure to know Dawn.  We shared many stories of family, nature, and music.  Dawn was a kind, compassionate and loving person.  I admired her faith and her dedication to her son, Benjamin.  Dawn always had time to lend an ear or write a note when someone was going through hard times. Her capacity for giving was unmatched.  My sincerest condolences go out to her family and friends.  While her physical form is gone, her light shines on in all who knew her.


Hello.  I did not know your mom, but saw that she passed from als.  I know this disease.  It is awful.  I'm sorry she suffered from als.  My daughter, age 44, is now suffering from als.  Two years now.  So I know what your loved one went thru.  Prayers for your family.  Mary, from bel air. Md.

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Dawn when I joined the Science office in 2018. Dawn was an awesome teacher, mom, and colleague. She welcomed me into the office with her warm and caring smile. I remember her sharing with me she her story about adopting her son Benjamin. Her face glowed like the sun as she shared the joy he had brought into her life. I could see and feel how much love she had for her son. Another memory I will cherish about Dawn is her expertise in gardening. She did  a "how to" planting class at one of our staff meetings that was so much fun and informative for me. I was the plant lover but had no clue how to care for them until Dawn showed me and shared her expertise.  I am blessed God allowed Dawn to be a part of my life.  Heaven has gained a sweet and special angel.  You are truly missed Dawn. My sincere condolences to the family.


    My first heart-felt memory of Dawn was visiting her classroom and listening to her play her guitar and sing so sweetly to her students.  As her Principal of Seven Oaks, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Dawn teach and interact with her students, as she was always thoroughly engaged with her students through creative lessons.  Dawn was such an exceptional teacher and a kind, caring and compassionate person.  Her students loved her and they knew she loved them too!
     As an instructor within the Office of Science, Dawn truly enjoyed every minute sharing her knowledge and appreciation of outdoor life, adventures within nature, and the land and water creatures at Marshy Point.  Every year, Dawn would join our 7Oaks Science Fair and set up an extraordinary display.  Of course, Benjamin would be with her to astonish us with his knowledge about the animals that she brought along.  As he did so, Dawn would show her deep love of Benjamin with a huge smile of pride.  Her enthusiasm always glowed...all eyes and ears were fixed on her every action and word.  She touched the lives of many, both children and adults!
     We were blessed to be touched by an angel!!  I will always envision her bright smile and light-heartedness.  She was an exceptional person who shared her gifts with so many people.  Her gifts of teaching and the giving of herself will live on forever within students, friends and loved ones.  Love you Dawn!
     My sympathy and prayers go out to Benjamin and family.  Love to Benjamin, who was the center of Dawn's heart and he, as well as many, will feel her love forever.

  

Cousins are our first friends. Sweet Dawn, my memories go way back, to overnights on Easter, old pictures of skinned knees and chocolate bunnies. Easter and Christmas dinners with family, flush with giggling girls. At family reunions, she was the first person you hope to find.  Dawn always sought us out with a bright smile and open arms.  We're praying for peace for the whole Dawson family. May God bring you comfort. Love you all, Sharon

Dawn has always been my "comma friend" because all of our conversations never really ended with a "period". We would see each other in the hallways after weeks passing and pick up exactly were we left off. 

Fate brought us together as writing partners for the first Eco-Trekker's curriculum. We sat on the back deck of Marshy Point worked for hours. Well... to be completely honest, we talked for hours and wrote during some of those! We actually had to set timers during our days. We would set a talking timer, and then a working timer, just to be sure we got our work done. 

Dawn was one of those people that looked you in the eye and truly saw you. Without even a hint of prying, she would know when I needed a hug just by looking in my eyes. She was genuine, caring, and an amazing human being!

I clearly remember the first picture of Benjamin that she was able to share. I called my mom to tell her that I had just seen the most beautiful boy who somehow had the same eyes full of love that his adoptive mother had. Dawn beamed when she talked about her son, and in an instant, a person who had the biggest heart of anyone I had ever met, was able to exponentially have her love grow. 

To all of Dawn's grieving family and friends, my sincere condolences! Dawn was an irreplaceable soul who's legacy will live on.

All her students not only learned facts and ideas; but, more importantly, empathy.  Children working with her always felt comfortable knowing that they were in a safe loving place where they were learning important, interesting things.

Dawn loved nature and passed that love on to others by her words and actions.  We will never know how many people—children and adults—have come to appreciate or appreciate more how to take care of our earth, how interesting nature is, how intertwined we all are.  

I am just one of many who was fortunate to be her friend.

Dawn was the sweetest, most compassionate woman I have ever met. I had the great privilege and pleasure of working with her for many years in the Office of Science. I believe there are angels among us and Dawn was definitely one of them. 

The love of Dawn’s life was her son, Benjamin. She was so extremely proud of him and all of his accomplishments. She was an incredible mother. They say the apple does not fall far from the tree and Dawn’s greatest qualities have been inherited by Benjamin.

Dawn was also an excellent teacher. She was devoted to her work too. She was hard-working and very easy to work with. Her love for nature was demonstrated when she taught the students in the outdoor science program. 

Dawn’s memory will live on in all the lives she touched. She will forever be the guardian angel watching out for Benjamin from above.

Dear Dawn,
I loved you so much. You were one of the sweetest, most genuine, and special people I have ever known.  Your good nature, sweet heart, generosity, and compassion were inspirational to everyone who knew you. I have many beautiful memories of you, but the one that stands out in my mind was the expression on your face when you brought Benjamin to the Office of Science to meet us for the first time. If there was ever a love story, that was it. Thank you for sharing your life with us. You have left such an incredible legacy through your years in the classroom and outdoor science, and the work you did with the school gardening program. You touched many lives and every one of them in such a beautiful way. I treasure the time we walked together on this Earth and I will never forget you. Rest In Peace.

Dawn was my son's second grade teacher at Seven Oaks.   She was very helpful with him and got him on the right track. She will be missed. Dawn also got him on track. Dawn was one of his favorite teacher. She will be missed, prayers for her and her family. 🙏💖🙏🌹🙏

Dawn taught my son, Ryan Mulqueen 3rd grade. She taught him to write cursive to classical music. I remember she chose him to take home the hamster during Christmas break because she knew how much he loved animals. That really meant a lot to him. Of all the teachers my children had. She was the absolute BEST!!!! I’m so sorry for your loss. 

Thank You for teaching and helping me build a foundation at Seven Oaks. You were a great teacher but better person Miss Dawson. Hope to meet you again down the road....

Dawn was my daughters 2nd grade teacher and she was such a fantastic teacher. She was so kind and caring towards my daughter who had lots of anxiety. I am a teacher myself and she helped me through my career. I ran into her many times after she left Seven Oaks Elementary when she was  in the Science Dept. I remember meeting Benjamin after she adopted him at The Avenue. She was so happy and you could see he was the light of her world. She made a difference in so many you d children’s life and they will always remember her. The last time I saw her was 4 years ago at my school when she was unpacking our science materials with her team. We had a great talk. I am so shocked and saddened to hear of her passing but I know her gift of giving and teaching will live on forever in all the children she has helped. Prayers to the family. 

Dawn was my daughter's second grade teacher at Seven Oaks Elementary.  From the moment our family met Dawn she held a special place in our hearts.  Ever since second grade, my daughter wanted to be a teacher "just like Ms. Dawson" and now, today she is in her ninth year of teaching third grade.  We were very blessed to have known her and  we will always treasure her memory.  She did great things while she was on this earth.  Rest in peace Ms. Dawson.

Such sad news, but Dawn would want us to focus on the joy she brought to everyone's life. Dawn was on of the kindest, sincere, loving individuals I've ever met. No matter what the situation, Dawn could always find the positive and worked hard to help others focus on the positive as well. I know Dawn is with God, serving as a guardian angel for Benjamin and all of the students, teachers, and families of BCPS. Miss you Dawn...

How does one describe Dawn? Dawn was the kindest, gentlest  person I have ever known. She did not have a mean bone in her body. Dawn was such a natural born teacher and I was always in awe of her ability to relate to students of all age levels. She was truly one of a kind and the world is a dimmer place without her. 

Every time I wear dangle earrings, I will think of Dawn and her encouraging me to broaden my horizons. Every time I see a dragonfly (especially a Green Darner), I will think of Dawn and working (can I even call it that?) with her at Marshy and Miami. Every time I putter around in my garden, I will think of Dawn's love for gardening and how she inspired so many others to garden. Every time I hear about adoption, I will think of how fiercely Dawn pushed to bring Benjamin home to her - she was such a fighter for him even before she ever met him. 

Dawn, you were such a gentle, compassionate person. You never hesitated to exchange an "I love you" with those close to you. I really cherish those "I Love Yous" and will miss them dearly. Heaven has truly gained another angel and I know you will be watching over everyone and giving us guidance. I hope we listen! Know that we will think of you often and smile through our tears, because one can't help but smile when thinking about Dawn! We miss you sweetie and will never, ever forget your influence on our lives. Rest easy Dawn. We love you!



I had written a memory earlier, but I do not see it posted. So, I will write another. 

I was blessed, fortunate, and privileged to have worked with the consummate professional Dawn Dawson in the Science Office BCPS. She brought much joy, enthusiasm, insight, and a great spirit to teaching and to team meetings as well. Always positive and upbeat, she made my job much easier and always put a smile on my face.  It is indeed with a sad heart I learn of her passing. But, there can be little doubt heaven is richer, but Earth is certainly poorer.  Until we meet again my friend.  

 Dawn was like a breath of fresh air.  She made a difference in everyone’s life that she knew by always being positive, kind, and loving.   Once you met Dawn, she was your friend for life.  I feel so honored and blessed to have known Dawn.  Rest in Peace dear friend.  

Benjamin, You were the sunshine of Dawn’s life and she was so proud  of you and so happy being your Mom.   Dawn is in heaven now watching over you…..Keep  your memories close to your heart.

I instantly liked Dawn the minute I met her in the Science Office at BCPS.  She was warm, welcoming, passionate, professional and so funny.  Working with her was  a gift. Her stories were always entertaining and full of energy.  Her love for her family, (her "sweet Benjamin") her students , co-workers and friends was so evident and constant. 

She truly was a shining star is in so many ways and was loved by all.  I will never forget her joy of learning about Benjamin and how much she loved being a mom.  

There will never be another Dawn.  Rest in Peace friend.
