Born in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late John F. and Helen (Kenney) Griffin and the beloved husband of Carolyn L. (Martin) Griffin. Mr. Griffin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Bill was born in Springfield and also lived in Cambridge and Revere during his childhood. Bill and his wife Carol raised their four children in Randolph before moving to Norwood after retirement. He played baseball, basketball and football while in high school at Cambridge Latin. Bill enlisted in the army after high school and was stationed in Germany as part of the Korean Conflict. Bill drove a truck his entire career and was a proud member of the Teamsters. Bill was also a member of the Million Mile Club, sponsored by the National Safety Council for Outstanding Performance and Driving. He was a member of the K of C for many years. Most of all, Bill loved all of his family. He also loved the beach, laying in the sun, playing golf, an occasional cigar, the Red Sox, coffee “black no sugar”, a good sandwich, lottery tickets, Frank Sinatra and sipping a scotch on the rocks!
Loving father of Kathleen M. Crowley and her husband Michael of Norwood, William M. Griffin and his wife Susan of Marblehead, Scott E. Griffin and his wife Denise of Norwood and Sean F. Griffin and his wife Sandra Powell of Randolph; cherished grandfather of Brendan, Erin and Ryan Crowley, Derik Griffin, and Liam and Michaela Griffin; devoted brother of Edward F. Griffin and his wife Susan of Denver, CO and the late John Griffin and Mary Ellen Gilbert. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Virginia Griffin of FL and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2nd from 2:00-6:00pm at the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rte. 1A), Norwood. All are welcome. Interment private.
