She was born on April 28, 1930 in Westwood, the daughter of the late Harold and Anne (Haarer) Boutilier. Phyllis graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1948. She went on to attend The Henry O. Peabody School for secretarial skills and Boston State College, where she earned a bachelor degree in Science of Education. Mrs. McDonough was a third-grade teacher at the Cleveland Elementary School in Norwood for 25 years until her retirement in 1996.
Phyllis was a generous woman and dedicated to the community. She volunteered her time as a receptionist at the Senior Center and was the former Vice President then President of Aho Grove in Walpole. Mrs. McDonough was a 35-year member of the Norwood Housing Authority. She was proud to become the first female member of the association and a complex was dedicated in her namesake in 2018. Mrs. McDonough’s greatest accomplishment was raising her seven children, all of whom she loved dearly. She was a generous woman whose legacy of love and warmth will live on in the countless lives she has touched.

McDonough, her high-school sweetheart with whom she enjoyed 23 years of marriage until his untimely passing in 1975; devoted mother of Catherine McDonough and her husband Joseph Hudson of Cummaquid, Charles McDonough and his wife Joanne of Hanson, Patrick McDonough and his wife Susan of Norwood, the late David McDonough and his wife Sandy of Walpole, the late Faye McDonough, Joseph McDonough and his wife Jeanmarie of Norwood, Michael McDonough and his wife Barbara of Norwood; loving sister of the late Catherine Driscoll; cherished grandmother of Charles of Billerica, Patrick of E. Walpole, Natalie of Norwood, Michael of Norwood, Brian of Norwood, Allison of Norwood, Sara of Mansfield, Lauren of Norwood, Joseph of Norwood, the late Jolena; great-grandmother of Noah, Jodon, and Mackenzie Faye. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
