Karen Marie (Ghostlaw) Smith, 51, of Norwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12th. Born in Boston, she was the beloved daughter of Ernest and Shirley (Sprague) Ghostlaw of Norwood and loving wife of Daniel “Danny” Smith of Norwood. Karen battled breast cancer with courage and dignity, never losing her sense of humor. Her passion was her family, going to all of the kids’ activities and being there for all who needed support, even during her own struggles. Thirty-three years ago Karen was hired by Walter Dempsey of Dempsey's Insurance, and she devoted herself to the company, eventually led by Bobby Dempsey, up through her final weeks. Karen was the loving mother of Ryan, Kelli and Kacie Smith, all of Norwood; dear daughter-in-law of Joan Smith and the late William E. Smith; devoted sister of Glenn Ghostlaw and his wife Deirdre, Wayne Ghostlaw and his wife Amanda and Derek Ghostlaw and his wife Julie; cherished sister-in-law of Donna Oliver and her husband Clay, Peggy Silletti and her husband Andy, William “Billy” Smith and his wife Janet, Mary Ellen Smith and Linda Pungitore and her husband Paul; and dear aunt of many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, at 9:00 AM from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rte. 1A), Norwood, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington Street, Norwood. Interment will follow the Mass in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, August 15, from 4:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
