Bob was born in Sherburne Four Corners on February 26, 1933 the son of Alfred and Clara (Knapp) Osowski. He attended the Sherburne School where he was active in the sports and band programs. He graduated with the class of 1950 and continued his education by attending the Utica School of Commerce. He left his education to serve his country by entering the United States Army from which he was honorably discharged. Bob’s working career spanned a period of 37 years working for the Norwich Oil Company where he was co-owner of their General Tire Division. Bob was always an avid sportsman. He was an accomplished bowler at the Hi-Skor Bowling Lanes and was also a member of the Norwich Bowling Hall of Fame. For 68 years he coached various levels of baseball and bowling winning numerous awards and titles. He was also a fan of the SU athletics and was a season ticket holder to both sports, the NY Yankee’s and the Buffalo Bills.
Bob’s community spirit was second to none and volunteered his time in many ways. He was the Treasurer of the Sherburne Pagent of Bands, delivered home meals in Sherburne, was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church and its Food Panty, a 27 year member of the Sherburne Fire Dept. and was a member of the Sherburne-Earlville Wall of Fame.
In short, without question, Bob was a man who served his faith, family and community.
On May 5, 1962 at St. Paul’s Church in Norwich he married Patricia Doody who survives. Besides his wife Pat, Bob is survived by his children Cynthia (Mark) Gardiner of Jacksonville, FL, Susan Castilla of Utica and Thomas (Jenny) Osowski of Sherburne. Also surviving are his grandchildren Andrew (Gina) Castilla of Frankfort, NY, Alexander (Nicolina) Castilla of Utica, Leigha Castilla of Utica and great grandchildren Alexander James Castilla and Noelle Leigha Castilla.
Bob was predeceased by his son Michael Osowski, son-in-law James Castilla, grandson Samuel Jacob Osowski and brothers Arden Frank Osowski and Richard Lee Osowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bob will be held on Saturday, July 31, at 1:00 pm from St. Malachy’s Roman Catholic Church of Sherburne. The Rev. Matthew T. Lyons will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Malachys Cemetery of Sherburne. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 4-7 pm.
