Patrick E Downey

Patrick E. Downey, 70, of Norwich, passed away at home on Thursday, July 20, 2023 after a long illness. He was born on March 31, 1953 to the late Thomas E. and Eleanor M. Downey. He was also predeceased by his brothers, John R. Downey, and Dennis R. Downey; as well as his step-son Philip R. Constable. Survivors include his longtime companion and fiancé, Kathleen E. Constable, of Norwich, his brothers, Terry L. Downey, of Norwich, Douglas J. Downey, of South New Berlin, and Thomas R. Downey, of Oxford; his sister, Star Moon, of Earlville; his sister in law, Annie Downey, of Norwich; his children, Amanda and Bryan; his step-children, Katrina and Benjamin Newman, and Tabitha Constable; his grandchildren, Philip, Camden, Kadence, and Kristen; his in-laws, Elaine and Don Snow; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pat made his living working at the Victory warehouse and later became a Telecommunications installer for Verizon in New York, NY as well as Pro-Tel in Norwich, and worked at Norwich Pharmaceutical. He later became a bartender at the Norwich VFW Post 2782 and the Norwich Elks Lodge and at Beadle's in Norwich before his retirement. He was a regular attendee of Broad St. United Methodist Church, a member of VFW Post 2782, American Legion Post 189 and the Norwich Elks Lodge. Pat enjoyed spending time with family and friends at backyard barbeques where they played horseshoes and listened to music. He also enjoyed playing pool, card games and movies. Pat will be remembered as a loving, caring kindhearted person who always made time for others and especially his dog, Lucy.

Per Pat’s request, there will be no formal funeral services. A celebration of his life will take place at the Norwich VFW Post 2782, 61 E. Main St. Norwich on Sunday, August 6, at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 33-39 Court St. Norwich.
