Michael T. Sawyer, 62, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 11. He was born in Norwich to the late Robert and Marion Sawyer; he was also predeceased by his infant son, Robbie Sawyer. Survivors include his devoted companion, Linda Shelton; his children, Erica Sawyer (partner) Pete DiNicola and Justin Sawyer (wife) Heather; his sisters, Kathy Kingsley, and Marjory Stopera (husband) Stanley; his furry companion and walking partner, Blizzard; as well as many friends.
Michael was a graduate of Norwich High School, class of 1976 and he served his country in the US Air Force until 1984. He also attended college at Syracuse University, SUNY Potsdam, Community College of the Air Force and University of South Carolina. He was employed in the warehouses at Victory Markets, Norwich Manufacturing and later became the general manager at Automecha where he retired after 22 years of service.
Michael was a patient family man who loved to have fun, was an excellent cook, grill master and scotch connoisseur. He made everyone around him laugh with his quick wit and endless stories of his life. He was a member of the Church of St. Bartholomew and the American Legion Post 189. He was a former member of the Norwich VFW Post 2782 and Norwich Elks Lodge #1222.
A funeral service for Michael will take place at 5:00 pm on Friday, April 16, at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. with Fr. Ralph Bove officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00pm until the time of service. Burial will take place at a later date in Norwich Quarter Cemetery.
