Joanne was born on December 13, 1925 in Syracuse the daughter of John and Arlene (O’Leary) Hart. She spent most of her life in the Syracuse area where she attended Central High School. For the past 24 years she has made her home in Pompey and had worked as the receiver of taxes for the Town of Manlius. The property where Manley Field House now sits was once owned by her Uncle.
Joanne first and foremost had a love of family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a gentle woman and one of the Hymn’s to be played at Mass will be “Gentle Woman” Her love of caring for people was very evident in her taking care of foster children especially those with medical disabilities. Throughout her life she was a faithful church member.
On July 4, 1947 in Syracuse she married Donald Cunningham who passed away January 23, 2011.
Joanne is survived by her children Daniel (Shirley) Cunningham of Minoa, Dana (Lisa) Cunningham of Rome, Dianne (Brian) Bruce of Alabama, Rev. Douglas Cunningham of East Syracuse, John (Mary) Cunningham of Pompey and Chris (Kim) Cunningham of Cazenovia. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Donald she was predeceased by an infant son Scott and daughter Heather Tavano, her siblings Jeanne Harris, MaryJane Davis and Shirley Applebee.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joanne will be held on Friday, Jukly19, at Noon from the Immaculate Conception Church in Pompey. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Cemetery in Pompey.
Friends may call at the Immaculate Conception Church on Friday from 10-12.
