Albert W. Wills III, 82, of Guilford, New York, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022, after a brief illness. Al, or “Big Al” as he was affectionately known, was born in Montclair, New Jersey to the late Albert W. and Erma M. (Kenworthy) Wills II. Al was predeceased by his sister Margaret (Peggy) Smith.
Al attended school in Dunellen, New Jersey, and proudly served the public as a police officer with the Green Brook Police Department in Green Brook, New Jersey. After relocating to Guilford in 1985, Al worked at I.L. Richer in Norwich for many years until his retirement. Al loved his farm where he and his wife Wanda had many horses, sheep, and a variety of farm animals over the years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, and growing vegetables and flowers in his garden. Al was an avid reader, often enjoying many hours of reading a day, and was proud when he finished reading the Bible from cover to cover. Among many other authors, he read just about every Stephen King novel ever written. Al loved watching his shows on TV, especially ball games. He was a diehard Yankees fan who never missed a game, keeping meticulous stats on every game, year after year. When baseball season ended, he enjoyed watching football and was a Green Bay Packers fan. Al enjoyed keeping in touch with many dear friends all over the country, who he spoke fondly of, especially after receiving a card, call, or e-mail from. Those who knew Big Al knew him to be witty, quick with a humorous word or reply, and eager to make people laugh with his colorful sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Al’s family shares the peace they have in knowing that he was a believer in Christ and is now at home with his Lord.
Al is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda (Nicholson) Wills; his children, Albert W. (Lisa) Wills IV, Hailey (Hal) Hingos, and Lara (Jeff) Yambor; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his cousin, Valerie (Bill) Wynne; and nieces and nephews; Tom Smith, Rick Smith, Lynda Chambers, David Smith, and Dianna Buswell.
Private services for Al have been entrusted to R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Guilford, New York Rescue Squad.
