Maureen was born in Norwich on August 4, 1945. She was the daughter of the late John T. and Helen (Konikowski) Tracey Sr. Maureen was raised in Norwich and graduated from Norwich Free Academy, Class of 1963.
Donald and Maureen resided in Uncasville for 50 years where, together, they raised their two daughters. They were faithful communicants of St. John’s Church in Uncasville and more recently The Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich. In addition to being a wife, mother and proud grandmother, she worked as a service worker, a bookkeeper and a cashier. Maureen volunteered at Montville High School and was a member of the Montville High Booster Club. Her hobbies included spending time with her family, playing games, especially Bingo, building puzzles, baking and cooking, and traveling, most often to Hawaii. Maureen was an avid sports fan and especially loved the New York Giants and the UCONN Huskies. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a loving, generous spirit.
On May 20, 1967, at St. Mary’s Church in Norwich, Maureen married the love of her life, Donald G. Leniart, who survives her. In addition to her husband of 55 years, Maureen is survived by her two daughters, Tracy DeAngelis and husband Edward of Danvers, MA, Lori Newton and husband Robert of Norwich; four grandchildren, Holly DeAngelis, Abigail DeAngelis, Charlotte Newton, and Harrison Newton; three step grandchildren Rebecca, Lauren and David and their children; her brother William and Patricia Tracey of Canterbury, her sister Dorothy Tracey of Plainfield, her sister-in-law Georgia Tracey of Norwich, her mother-in-law Phyllis Leniart of Uncasville, her sister-in-law Carol and Michael Batura of Sterling; nieces and nephews, Daniel, Tina, Natalie, Richard, Tonya, Kelly, Lynn, Pam, John, Scott, Tommy, Kim, Billy, Steven, Kelly, Mathew, Michael and Michelle; and many great nieces and nephews.
Maureen is predeceased by her sister, Barbara Williams, brother John T. Tracey Jr., and father-in-law George Leniart.
Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Avenue, Norwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, June 9, 2022, 11 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 70 Central Avenue, Norwich, meeting directly at the church. Interment to immediately follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Norwich.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to either the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
