She was born in Norwich on June 4, 1931 to the late John and Irene (Decker) Welch. On July 6, 1952 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Mary was united in marriage to her beloved husband Peter who survives her.
Mary worked at the former Ortronics in Norwich and as a Plan File Clerk at Electric Boat for many years. Her greatest achievement and joy however, was the love and caring she had for her family as she laughed and joked with them, volunteered for their little league concession stand and cooked fantastic meals for all to share. She also worked on 2 cookbooks and baked for her church.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Peter, her sons; Peter Trantalis Jr and wife Rae-Jean, William Trantalis and wife Kimberly, daughter; Susan Birge and husband Robert, brothers; Butch (Judy), Jimmy (Linda) and Pete (Setsuko) Welch, sister; Madeline Izbicki, grandchildren; Chris Paradis (Tammy), Danielle Mikulak (Dan), Jennifer, Peter & Austin Trantalis, Kim Birge-Liberman (Phil), great-grandchildren; Jake & Hayley Paradis, Wes & Norah Birge-Liberman and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Jackie, Dicky, Danny and Billy, and sister Irene.
The family would like to thank all those who have helped to care for our Mother.
