She was the youngest of five children born in Norwich to Italian immigrant parents, Pietro and Domenica Culotta on May 2,1932. She was an excellent student in local schools. She graduated in 1950 from Norwich Free Academy, where she was a four-year member of the National Honor Society.
On January 9, 1953, she married the love of her life, Bill Stanley, at Ss. Peter & Paul Church in Norwich.
As a devoted and loving wife and homemaker, she raised three children and supported her husband's active business and political careers. Bill and many others often contended Peg's unwavering support, encouragement and warm hospitality were the key to her husband's and children's success. She was a proud 40-year breast cancer survivor.
After her children were grown, Peg volunteered faithfully at the Cathedral of St. Patrick and The William W. Backus Hospital, where she was also an active member of hospital's Auxiliary. Together with Bill, she founded St. Jude Common, a not-for-profit home for seniors that would become a statewide model for such facilities. She and Bill found great happiness after St. Jude's opening in celebrating holidays there with the residents.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Mario Culotta, and two sisters, Josephine DeSantis and Rose Perrone.
She is survived by her son, William A. Stanley and his partner, Karen Buck, of Waterford; daughters Carol Marie Little and her husband, Michael, of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Mary Elizabeth and her husband, Kenneth Wetmore, of Mystic; grandsons James E. Stanley and William H. Stanley; and Christopher Little of Shrewsbury, Mass.
The family would like to thank the Center for Hospice Care, Dr. Paul Deutsch, Diana Modebadze, and dear friends Ann Marie Carignan, Betty LaFreniere, Lois Griffin, Irene Donovan and Maryanne Leone for their loving care and support during Peg's long illness.
