She was born on October 12, 1923 in New London to the late Lawrence and Katherine (Rogers) Perry. Laurel graduated from Quaker Hill School in 1937, Chapman Technical School in 1941 and Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing in 1945. During WWII, she served as a nurse on Cape Cod with the Army Nurse Corps.
On July 12, 1948 she married her beloved husband Donald Williams Holloway and they began their loving journey through life together. While Donald attended UCONN after the war, she worked at Mansfield Training Center. Laurel was a nurse throughout her life, but mostly at L&M Hospital.
Laurel participated in the Four-Leaf Clover 4-H Club of Quaker Hill and was active for many years with the New London County Extension Service Home Demonstration Group of Quaker Hill. She enjoyed camping, travelling, knitting, crocheting, and quilt making. She was also a long time member of the Quaker Hill Baptist Church serving as SS and VBS teacher, Deaconess, Missionary Society, Ladies Aid Society, singing in the choir, leader of the Baptist Youth Fellowship, and worked on many a Great Pumpkin Fair.
She is survived by a son; Kerry Holloway and his wife Jennifer, daughter; Betty Holloway Drew and her husband Joseph, daughter-in-law; Barbara Holloway, grandchildren; Matthew C Holloway, Dana C Holloway Thayer and her husband Jimmy Ray, Lawrence Joseph Drew II and his wife Sarah, Erin Drew Pellitier and her husband Jason, great-grandchildren; Abigal, Ian, Evelyn Thayer and Lily, Joseph Drew, and many nieces and nephews.
Laurel was predeceased by her husband Donald (2004), son Gordon Bruce Holloway (2003), and sisters; Katherine Smith, Dorothy Pierce and Mary Lou Jennotte.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday from 5pm-7pm at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 54 Route 32, Uncasville, CT. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday at 10am at Quaker Hill Baptist Church, 144 Old Norwich Rd., Quaker Hill, CT. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
