Frances "Fran" Plotnick, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Friday at Hartford Hospital. She was born in the Bronx, NY on June 27, 1932 to the late Saul and Esther (Shatzman) Blustein. On May 23, 1953 she married her beloved husband Herbert in Colchester, CT who survives her.
Fran was an educator who enjoyed teaching and learning throughout her entire life. Completing college after starting a family, she was determined to leave her mark in the classroom. She enjoyed 30 years of teaching in the Ledyard school system, achieving frequent recognition including "Educator of the Year," and receiving state recognition for her creative teaching ideas. Fran continued long after her retirement by educating at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum.
She lived a full life, always on the go, ready for her next adventure. Her love of music brought her all over the world, singing with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus in China, performing in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and attending countless concerts whenever she had the opportunity. Her incredibly kind heart made her a true humanitarian; freely sharing her time and efforts with Haddasah, The Connecticut Human Society, and the Relay for life; just to name a few. Whether getting lost in a book, on long walks on the beach or chasing her love of adventure, you could always find Fran making the most of every single moment.
Fran dearly loved her family. In addition to her husband, Fran is survived by her daughter Ellen Curtin, her husband Keith, son Jeff Plotnick and his wife Jayne. Her sister Cynthia Brasche and her family, and her adored grandchildren David and Elyssa Ravenelle.
Fran was the heart and soul of Herb's Deli, who was often referred to as "Mrs. Herb". Her outgoing personality, warm welcoming nature, and tenacious business savvy allowed their small family restaurant to become something the community will never forget.
She will always be loved and truly missed.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday July 5, 2016 at 11am at Beth Jacob Synagogue 400 Norwich New London Tpke. Norwich, CT. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to either Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus or Hadassah.
