Craig was born on December 7, 1964 in Norwich, CT. He graduated from the Norwich Technical School in 1983, and Maine Maritime Academy in 1989. Craig then proudly served as a Merchant Marine for 26 years, a career that allowed him to travel the world. As a mariner, he sailed the Pacific and through the Panama Canal, with stops in Alaska, Hawaii, Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean. He also loved to travel with his family, and particularly cherished the time spent together in Disney World, Alaska, South Africa, Seattle, the Bahamas, and California. Of all the places he traveled, he most loved Block Island, and sharing his time there with family and friends.
Craig married Pamela Jean (Bonnin) Babcock on June 24, 1989.
Craig lived his life on the ocean, and spent his time on Block Island boating, fishing, swimming, SCUBA diving, and teaching others to love the sea. He also loved to work on all things in the company of those he loved, from cars, boats, and houses to fishing lures. He was a “dog whisperer,” who was loved by all dogs in return.
Above all, Craig treasured his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Pamela Jean Babcock, and his children, Craig Babcock II and Cassie Babcock, of whom he was most proud, as well as their fiancés Britta Kunkemoeller and Jeffery Victoria. Craig is also survived by his parents, Robert and Mary (Gilmour) Babcock; his siblings, Robert Babcock, Jr, Bruce and Pamela Christine Babcock, and Melissa Loizou; 9 adored nieces and nephews; 3 great-nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws; and many beloved friends and shipmates. He will also be greatly missed by his little buddies, Chief and Tucker.
Craig had an enormous influence on those around him, and his loyalty, generosity, humor, hard work, and dedication to his family will live on in those who love and admire him.
The family will be greeting friends and relatives on Friday, January 19 from 5-7pm at Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave, Norwich, CT. A memorial service will be held on
Block Island at a later date.
