Bernard Thomas Muldoon Jr.

Norwich - Bernard (Bernie) Thomas Muldoon Jr., age 85, of Norwich passed away on May 26, 2022 in the loving presence of family. He was born in Bridgeport on March 16, 1937 to the late Bernard and Winifred (Owens) Muldoon. He married his wife Beverly (Casey) Muldoon on June 25, 1982 in Norwich, combining families for a total of seven children.

In addition to his loving wife Beverly Muldoon, he is survived by daughters Maribeth Muldoon of Windsor, CT, Anne Muldoon (Andy Proehl) of San Francisco, CA; son, Bernard T. Muldoon III of Haddam CT, stepsons Robert Casey of Plainfield, VT, John Casey III (Angela Berrios) of Lake Worth, FL; daughter-in-law Lisa Casey of Norwich, CT; grandchildren Sara Muldoon of Brazil and Kevin Muldoon of Salem, CT.

He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Patricia Palmer Muldoon, sister Mary Lou Muldoon, daughter Marie Stiles, stepson Thomas R. Casey and son-in-law Stephen Plant.

He graduated from Fairfield University with a Bachelor's Degree in Physics and a Master’s Degree in Education. He also completed post-graduate work in Education at several prestigious universities. At the age of 22, he began his teaching career at Norwich Regional Vocational Technical School, where he remained for twenty-nine years, attaining the position of Assistant Director. He then served as Assistant Director at vocational technical schools in Essex, Bristol and Danielson, CT. While teaching and in retirement, Bernie was always pleased to be greeted and thanked by former students

During his time at Norwich Tech, Bernie coached the golf team, directed the Summer Exploratory Program, and supervised the Adult Education Program. He was also the representative for the Metal Trades Council Apprenticeship Program, and the Electrical, Carpentry and Plumbing Joint Training Programs. For his service, he was awarded the Department of Labor Connecticut State Apprenticeship Council’s Meritorious Award for his outstanding contribution to apprenticeship in Connecticut.

He was the recipient of four National Science Foundation Grants, most memorable of which was the summer he and his family resided in San Diego while he attended a post-graduate program at San Diego State University.

He was a parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at Cathedral of Saint Patrick, Norwich. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Norwich, and docent for the Museum of the Islands, Pine Island, FL. Bernie enjoyed planning active cultural trips and he and Beverly traveled to many fascinating locations in the US and around the world.

Calling hours will be held on Friday June 3rd at Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich from 8:30 AM until the procession for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Cathedral in Norwich. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Boswell Ave., Norwich.
