Beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at age 84. Born in Los Angeles, he was involved with Greek Orthodox Church choirs and his powerful bass voice was recognized everywhere. He also pioneered the GOYA Basketball League. After Manual Arts High School, he earned his BA degree in Physical Education from UCLA, played football on the 1954 & 1956 Rose Bowl teams, and 1954 National Championship team. His passion for sports led him to officiate high school and college football, track & field and 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Coach Martin cherished coaching and teaching for over 40 years. Athletes, students, colleagues, family and friends respected and loved him dearly. His smile, strong voice, words of wisdom, guidance, and enthusiasm will be missed. He is survived by wife Cathie, sons Philip (Mary), John (Lisa), Patrick (Kyoko), and grandchildren, Emily, George, Katarina, and Ayaka.
Trisagion services will be held Tuesday, January 22nd at 7:00pm at Bastian & Perrott Mortuary, 18728 Parthenia St., Northridge, CA, 91324. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 23rd at 10:30am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 9501 Balboa Blvd., Northridge, CA, 91325.
