July 31, 1929—July 4, 2019
Eloise Cabral, age 89, entered into God’s Kingdom on Thursday, July 4, 2019 while in Oxnard, California. Eloise, a great-grandmother of great faith, left a legacy of grace, patience and resilience for her loved ones to emulate.
Eloise was born on July 31, 1929 in El Paso, Texas to Rafael and Maria Guerra. Raised in Tucumcari, New Mexico, Eloise lived in California for most of her adult life. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Paula Lara de Valles, her parents, her husband, Joseph Cabral, Sr., and brother, Arturo Guerra.
Eloise is survived by her brother, Retired Air Force Colonel Rafael Guerra (Maria); daughter, Diana Lynn Cabral Kaysen and son, Joseph Cabral, Jr. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Carissa and Shaun Higginbotham and great-grandson, Ethan Beaudette, who will cherish their memories of “Grandmasita” and “Grandpa Joe.” Eloise had very special relationships with and adored all of her many surviving nieces and nephews, who lovingly called her “Aunt Eloise” or “Aunt Licha.”
God had gifted Eloise with many talents. She was a classically-trained pianist with her own baby grand piano. Eloise also played the clarinet and was a proud “Rattler” band member in high school. She was honored as the State Conductress for the state of New Mexico and earned a music scholarship to attend Texas Western University. Eloise enjoyed teaching students as an Education Aide with the Los Angeles Unified School District, where she taught music and English as a second language. Eloise and her brother, Rafael, were also professionally-trained Mexican Ballet Folklorico dancers; she trained dance troupes for Our Lady of Lourdes and Nobel Junior High Schools in Northridge, California.
Active in civic pursuits, Eloise held the Office of Vice President for the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was also a member of the League of Women Voters.
She epitomized the phrase, “mi casa es tu casa,” as she was a proud homeowner who warmly welcomed and was a caregiver to her family members and their friends. Eloise was happiest when she was spending time with her family, as she was passionate about being surrounded by her loved ones for family meals, gatherings and wedding receptions, especially.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate their time with Eloise, her legacy and her eternal life by gathering for visitation from 5-8 PM (Rosary at 7 PM) this Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Bastien & Perrott, Oswald Mortuary, located at 18728 Parthenia Street in Northridge, California.
