Verla G. Hamm, age 93, of Northport Al, passed away on Dec. 11th 2022, at Hospice West Alabama. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Funeral Home. Viewing will be one hour prior to service.
Verla was a loving and caring woman that would help anyone that needed it. She worked in the field of education for 19 years for our military at Gunter Air Force Station in Montgomery Al. She was a loving wife to Msgt. Retired Leonard Hamm for 38 yrs.. She was a loving and dedicated mother to 4 boys that were her life. She was a devoted Christian and member of Northport Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents John & Helen Gaurganus, Husband Leonard L. Hamm, Sons Bruce W. Prentice and Ronnie Prentice along with 4 older siblings. She was survived by her sons Terry L. Hamm and Dakota P. Hamm [Jo Ann Hamm] and nephew Gary Earnest [ Peggy Earnest].
If you could ever see an angel Mom and Dad were the earthly form. The kindest woman ever to walk the earth to have faced the trials and suffering of this world, she never lost her faith or the ability for unconditional love. She took in a child that was not her own and raised him and loved him as a mother should. She helped raise her grandson as her own to help me with the nurturing that only a mother can give. For her tireless acts of kindness there will never be another person that will hold a place in my heart as she does.
