She was born to Archie and Floy Kee Leonard on November 19, 1945. While in high school she met the love of her life, Eugene Collins, and they were married in 1963. Just three short years later, she delivered their only child, a son, Wade.
Nancy was a wonderful southern-style cook and loved decorating the house and making traditional holiday meals for Gene, Wade, and her daughter-in-law Elisa during the holidays. Her handwritten recipe book is one of Wade’s prized possessions. Along with cooking, quilting was one of her favorite past times and she finished many quilts over the years. She loved to give coats as gifts. She wanted her people to be full and warm.
Although hers was a small family she mothered many young adults through the years while she worked at Jerry’s Cleaners. The members of Indian Lake Baptist Church on Watermelon Road in Northport were her church family and some of her fondest memories were shared with her friends there.
A funeral is planned for Monday, May 9. The family will receive guests at 10:30 am with a graveside service to follow at 11:00 am. The service will take place at Sunset Funeral Home at 3802 Watermelon Road, Northport, Alabama, 35473.
