James is survived by; his children, Pete Wicker (Julie) and Debbie Tavolino; grandchildren, Drew Wicker (Crystal), Riley Wicker (Natasha), Seth Wicker (Christine), Nick Tavolino (Pam), Leah Minchew (Sam), Ari Tavolino (Josh) McKayla Taylor (Matt); great grandchildren, Jacob Minchew, Dylan Minchew, Aydin Taylor and Cooper Wicker. James was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Wicker; son, Randy Wicker; parents, Felton and Mauline Wicker; and sister, Gail Martian.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home with the Celebration of Life Funeral Service following at 11:00 AM with Bro. Scott Montgomery presiding. His final resting place will be at Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are grandsons and great-grand sons. Honorary Pallbearers are the Malone Brothers, the Domino family, Bethabara Baptist Church family, The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Department and a very special caregiver Tonya Robertson. Special thanks to Dr. Charles Nolen and Dr. John Crew.
James was a retired deputy from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's department, where he spent many years helping people. He also retired from Shelton State Community College as a security guard. James spent his last years hunting with his sons, grandsons, and great-grand son. He made time for the weekly domino games with the Malone brothers and many friends with the domino games being the highlight of his week. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
