NORTHPORT - Dr. James W. Nichols, age 62, of Northport, Ala., passed away April 16, 2019. Services will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2019, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, Ala. with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2019, at the church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walton Newton Nichols; and his son, James Patrick “Jay” Nichols.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Elaine Land Nichols; daughters, Sharon Eliza Nichols and Catherine Grace Nichols; sisters, Eleanor Morgan of Atlanta, Ga. and Judy Joiner of Trussville, Ala.; mother, Mrs. Myra Jean Nichols of Birmingham, Ala.
James was born in Birmingham, on August 9, 1956, the son of the late James W. and Jean Nichols. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Samford University, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Having worked in Christian ministry for 42 years, James served the past ten years as the senior pastor at Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa. He lived life to the fullest and had a particular passion for people, preaching, and NASCAR. He will be truly missed by friends and family.
Pallbearers will be Rick Harbin, Rob Livingston, Josh Helton, Casey Speigner, Phillip Hall and Steve Loggins.
Honorary pallbearers are Ken Cheek and David Fletcher.
