J. Darwin Sullivan, age 69, of Northport, passed away May 17, 2012, at UAB Hospital Trauma/Burn ICU. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Five Points Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Robinson and Rev. Jeremy Burrage officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Saturday night from 5 to 9 p.m. at Five Points Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Warden Sullivan and Mildred Brown Sullivan; his grandparents James (Jim) and Nancy Sullivan and John and Lula M. Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Ramsey Sullivan; daughter, Lisa Sullivan Wheeler (Randy); son, Tim Sullivan (Sandra); grandsons. Kyle Wheeler, Chase Wheeler, Hunter Wheeler, Johnathan Sullivan and Carson Sullivan, all of Northport; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Known not only by his grandsons, but by many, as "Dar", he loved his farm. He spent countless hours there fixing things up, working in his garden, feeding his cows and hunting and fishing. He loved for his grandsons to spend time there hunting and fishing and welcomed anyone else that wanted to come.
He was the owner of Sullivan Standard service station for 31 years and grew to know many people over the years. He was employed with the University of Alabama for a short period of time before he and his son started their own business, Sullivan Contracting, Inc., 12 years ago. He loved to work and worked hard for what he had. He instilled good work ethics in his children and was doing the same for his grandchildren. He believed that you had to work hard today because you may not have that opportunity tomorrow.
Pallbearers will be Randy Rushing. Doug Wyres, Jimmy Crowe, Earl Mitchell, Jerry Johnson, Harold Harbin, Jerry Sullivan and Marty Sullivan.
