Glen Comer Wilson

Glen Comer Wilson, age 85, of Northport, died April 3, 2012. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tim Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Wilson; parents, Tom and Wilma Wilson; brother, Tom Wilson; and sister, Martha Jo McCombs.

Survivors include his daughters, Glenda W. Copeland (Terry) and Doris W. Harbin (Rick); his sister, Joyce W. Lee; his grandchildren, Audrey Copeland, Scott Copeland (Mary), Wesley Harbin (Traci), Blake Harbin (Miranda), Priscilla Harbin Tibbetts (Danny), and Pete Harbin; and his great-grandchildren, Shelby Copeland, Amarie Harbin, Josie Tibbetts, Pax Harbin, and Levi Tibbetts.

A member of the greatest generation, Glen proudly served in the Army during World War II and was deployed as a member of the landing forces slated to invade Japan in August 1945. After returning home, Glen met and married his sweetheart, Margie, and they made their home in Morris, Alabama where they raised their daughters. Devoted members of Providence United Methodist Church, they gave of their time by leading the youth group and directing the Sunday School program.

Glen worked for several decades at General Steel and Tank Company. His true passion was flying and often on Sunday afternoons he would be soaring over the skies of Northern Alabama in his Aeronca Champ.

Glen was very proud of his granddaughters and grandsons, teaching them the value of dedication, hard work, and a life well lived. He enjoyed storytelling, especially humorous stories. He delighted in his great-grandchildren and his eyes twinkled at their sight. Glen loved to travel, and many of his family's most precious memories were made at the beach or in the mountains. Above all else, Glen was a devout Christian and was devoted to his family.

Pallbearers will be Scott Copeland, Wesley Harbin, Blake Harbin, Pete Harbin, Danny Tibbetts, and Jack Lee.
