Gerald David Smith

Gerald was born on July 11, 1947, to Victor and Lillie Smith. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and later worked at Drummond Coal Mine, retiring in 2006. Gerald loved fishing and hunting with his son and grandsons, and he spent his leisure time gardening. His beloved pet was a Rottweiler. One of his most memorable experiences was attending the Houston Rodeo with his family.

Gerald is survived by his children, Dana Minor and David Randal Smith (Sarah); grandchildren, Bailey Minor, Dylan Minor, Ethan Smith (Bayleigh), Isabelle Smith, Lily Smith, and Sophia Smith; great-grandchild, Camden Smith; sisters, Helen Strickland (Cecil) and Vickie Spencer (Ken) and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Lillie Smith; siblings, Orman Smith, Autry Smith, Billy Smith, and Carolyn Smith, and significant other, Manda Kreider.

A visitation for Gerald will be held Monday, December 9, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers are Dylan Minor, Ethan Smith, Christian Pritchett, Steve Wilson, Steve Whitaker, and Brandon Jones.
