Dorothy Jones

Dorothy Hamner Jones, 94, of Fosters Al., passed away on July 21, 2022 in her sleep at home with family. Services will be held at Sylvan UMC Monday July 25, 2022, at 11am with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Jim Smith and Bro. Dan Arsenault officiating.

She was preceded by her husband Melvin Jones, both her parents Murray and Dorothy Hamner, sister Mary Snipes, brothers James, Robert, and Paul Hamner.

Survivors include daughter Ann Burns (Randy), step daughter Rita Cunningham, grandchildren Kent Burns (Heather), Amy Posey (Scott), Angela Estes (Bill), great grandchildren Rebecca Posey, Emilee and Allie Burns, Mason Williams, nieces Brenda Snipes and Cindi Elliott (Scott), Nephews Neil Snipes, Wade Hamner (Shelly), Ronnie Berryhill.

Dorothy Jones worked at Bryce Hospital for thirty years before retirement. She was a lifelong resident of Fosters Alabama and a lifetime member of Sylvan UMC church. She was also a member of the Happy Seniors Group at Wesley Chapel Church.

She will be remembered as a very loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She was gifted with special ladies of her church who called her “Momma Dot”. She had a love for pets and bird watching.

Pallbearers will be Neil Snipes, Ronnie Berryhill, Scott Elliott, Tommy Kinard, Scott Channell, and Jeff Hall.

Honorary pallbearers are Reuel Huffman, Val Arnold, Dr. Debra Davis, Amedisys Home Health and Hospice staff, Members of Sylvan UMC and Shiloh Baptist. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sylvan UMC cemetery fund.
