A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 2:00pm on January 5, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home in Northport AL with the Reverend Arthur Thomas of Greensboro AL officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior.
Donnie is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Carrie O’Neal Walker.
Survivors include his wife Vickie, daughter Valerie Jenay Young (Jason), grandson Jason Young, brother Roy C. Walker Jr. and Uncle Bobby Bates.
Donnie had a lifelong passion for music, playing drums for his first band The Shadows, during junior high school. The band enjoyed reuniting forty years after high school to raise funds for various charities and to have a good time reconnecting with Tuscaloosa County High class of 69 friends. He was delighted that his grandson, Jason, inherited his musical talent and enjoyed encouraging and helping him with that.
He had a strong faith in God and the family appreciates the many who prayed for him during this difficult illness he so bravely fought. He was very patriotic and was proud to have served his country during the Vietnam War earning him a National Defense Service Medal as well as a Vietnam Service Medal.
Honorary pallbearers include son-in-law Jason Young, grandson Jason Young, Rayford Cook, Chad Cook, the Shadows Band, Chap McDaniel, Joe Bates, Tim Bates, Dr. Ross Vaughn and Amedysis Home Health Care nurses.
