Judy passed away suddenly on February 4th, 2023, and is desperately missed by her daughter Erica Waddell, son-in-law Mark, and grandsons Cam and Harry. We are comforted by the thought that she is now reunited with her beloved husband Bob (1995) and adored son Rob (2006).
Born in Glasgow in 1937, she first met Bob at The Glasgow School of Art where they were both students. In 1963, they moved to BC to teach and got married in Powell River, eventually settling in Lions Bay in 1968, and then Gleneagles in 1982. Their life together was filled with art, sailing, music, and raising their children. Judy was an art teacher and French Immersion TTOC, involved in volunteering with her children’s schools, Girl Guides of Canada, and various charities. Her grandsons brought her great joy and pride. Granny was the strongest person we knew and after the loss of both husband and son and then beating breast cancer three times, continued to make friends and bring joy to other people’s lives through the Gulf Yacht Club, Curves Zumba, and Dragon Boating with her Abreast in a Boat crew. She travelled to the UK, Italy, Sweden, Iceland, Belize, and fulfilled a childhood dream by visiting the Galapagos Islands. With her Dragon Boating crew, she visited Florida, Cartagena Colombia, and in her last big trip in February 2020, Fiji.
She will be missed by many, and we hope her kindness, generosity, and youthful independence will stay with people for a long time to come.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 16th, 2023 at 2:00pm at the Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver.
Instead of a reception, we are asking that people gather with the group through which they knew Mum, at a time of their choosing, and remember her fondly doing the activities that they shared together.
Arrangements are being handled by First Memorial Boal Chapel.
