Robert (Bob) Bates Dobbie of Vancouver BC was born in Montreal QC on February 28th 1940 and passed away due to complications of Myelodysplastic syndrome on September 26th 2018 at the age of 78 in the ICU at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC surrounded by his family.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Fay and John Dobbie and his sister Jane Maud Dobbie.
Survived by his partner Ken Dunion of Vancouver BC. Mother of his children Joan Dobbie of Okotoks, AB. His children Stephanie Kerr (Brent), Jane Dobbie (Bart), Virginia Dobbie, Peter Dobbie and Mary Storry (Mike). His grandchildren Kristopher, Sarah (Henry), Kelsea, Elissa, Dylan, Taylor, Emily and Autumn, all of Calgary, AB. His sister Mary Fay Prophet (John) of Avoca, QC and many other family members. His most rewarding and passionate life work was at the Developmental Disabilities Association in Vancouver BC where he was a caregiver for 23 years. Bob loved his family and couldn’t have been more proud of each one of them. He loved to read, travel, talk politics and always had time to stop in at the local pub for a happy hour beer with friends. He would spend hours walking everywhere and later in life was seen many times sitting on various benches in downtown Vancouver soaking in the West Coast scenery. To say Bob Dobbie was one-of-a-kind is an understatement. He had a huge heart, was generous, courageous, free-spirited, had an infectious laugh, loved to be social and had a strong circle of lifelong friends. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Pumpjack Pub (1167 Davie St.) in Vancouver, BC on Saturday, October the 13th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
An additional celebration will be held in Calgary, AB at a later date along with being laid to rest with his beloved mother and father in Avoca, QC.
