Dear Carol, Mallory, James & Patty,
My sincerest  condolences for your loss. I remember the madness on the day he was born. Harold, his father, shook up the whole neighbourhood. As children Ricky always hung over the back fence talking to me or Mum or Dad. Always a sociable lad. Many a piece of birthday cake was passed over the fence. I remember he always wanted to tap dance. 
Just the other day I was looking at a picture of the old neighbourhood friends all sitting up Rick & Carols staircase. It was Christmas & they were living in Markham at that point. The occaision was his mother Dorothy's 75th birthday in 1988 (December 23rd). The last that I saw Rick & Patty & families was in January 2008 at his mothers Funeral.
A very bright spark in this world has gone. He was very much Harold's son in every way except for his height.
Rest well, my dear, Rick.

I was sorry to hear about Rick's passing. I was a tech at CBC back in the day and got called into an overtime shift to cover hourly Sports Broadcasts. Rick - was a true Broadcaster! My condolences to the family.

It is with a heavy heart that I will be attending Rick's Memorial Service this afternoon at Christ Church Cathedral. Though I consider myself now a Vancouverite, I was once a Torontonian, and was in the same class as Rick throughout Junior High School (Grades 7, 8 and 9 at RJ Lang in Willowdale). He was bright, sociable and funny, excelling at the latter two and perhaps not putting quite so much effort into his studies! But he sure made up for that in later years. Since moving to Vancouver, he and I reconnected and have shared lunches along with a mutual friend. I last saw him in 2023 at the Memorial Service of another mutual friend.  He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

My sincere condolences to Rick's family and friends.  It has been decades since I have seen Rick.  We knew each other in school, but it was especially through many years together in Boy Scouts that I got to know Rick.  He was a great story teller and had a great sense of humour.

Dear Cecilia and family...my sincere condolences. I have fond memories of Rick while i was working at CBC Radio in Vancouver.
He had a great sense of humour and together we shared a love of music..especially the old, big band hits. He will be missed by many.
I will hold on to my memories of him..and when he smiles, I will smile back. Thank you Mr. Cluff.

So sorry to hear of Rick`s passing!  You and he were two of my favourite clients and I considered it a privilege and honour to assist you with some of your legal needs.
One thing that impressed me about each of you was how grounded, down to earth and personable you were/are.  It`s little wonder that each of you was so successful in your careers in the broadcasting media!
No doubt Rick`s passing has left you with a huge hole in your life but I hope his memory will be a comfort to you as you adjust to your new reality!  I expect you have many friends and family who will help you through this difficult time and, hopefully in the not too distant future, your life will again be full and happy!

My deepest condolences to the Cluff family on the loss of this dear man.  I hadn't seen Rick since we were in the Music Man together at Newtonbrook High School. I was Professor Harold Hill and he was the mayor. To be honest, back then this teddy bear of a man  scared me a little because he was a big guy with a big personality which eventually led to his successful career. It wasn't until decades later, that I was able to re-connect with him hearing  his warm,  mellifluous voice and intellect over the airwaves.

I have fond memories of Rick from Newtonbrook Secondary School where we shared a love of high school musicals. He was the epitome of kindness, warmth, and acceptance of everyone. I know that my older brothers Brian and Bob knew him better and enjoyed his friendship.  My condolences to the family.

To all of Rick’s school buddies, he was a jovial popular fellow.  But long before he was a CBC broadcaster, he was preparing from an early age.  Rick was a Queen’s Scout and attended the World Jamboree in 1967; a HS frat brother; Mayor Shinn of River City in “Music Man”, a portrait hung in G&S “Ruddigor” school musicals; a trained municipal assessor from Seneca College; a telecommunications network Traffic planner for Bell Canada; a PoliSci major at Huron College at Western U. and a DU brother; a Journalism grad from Carlton U.  Rick was a good friend to countless people along the way.  He will be missed by many.

I am a long time listener to the Early Edition.  I came to really enjoy Ricks broadcasts.   He had a natural way of enraging his guests.  I felt he was a friend I came to know and like.   I even met him about ten years ago at a CBC open house.  He was natural  and warm.  A true gentleman, my condolences to you all.  John Holland

Dear Cecilia and Family. Peg and I were heartbroken to hear of Rick's passing.  Our desks were close to each other in the newsroom for many years. We had great chats there after the show was done for the day. While we shared a mutual interest in the social and political news of the day, our most passionate conversations usually involved the Canadian Football League. A shared passion.  What a treat he was, a gentleman in a business that is often lacking in that regard.
His was a good soul and his memory will always be a blessing. I know we will meet again and we will carry on where we left off the last time Rick and I chatted. Cecilia, all the very best to you. You are in our thoughts and prayers.  Terry and Peggy Donnelly

Dear Cecilia and Rick's children and family,
So deeply sorry to hear of Rick's passing. He was a gem of a human-respectful, caring, compassionate and so talented in covering sports and then hosting CBC Radio's Early Edition. Not many sportscasters move from sports into current affairs hosting. He made it look easy.  He was always interested in chatting with me about news and issues and gave me a great compliment on air one day which I remember fondly. I was investigating dentists for Marketplace and some were pushing pricey veneers on me. Rick said "Theresa has a beautiful smile she doesn't need that!". Thanks Rick for being such a wonderful man, colleague and friend.
