Sharing in your sadness as you all remember John and so sorry we could not be there to celebrate his life.
As for many of you John was a large part of my growing up years (still trying some times). I first met John in Capilano Elementry school and we immediately became best of friends and that never changed as we were always a phone call away after going our different ways. A memory i will always have and would like to share.
It was grad year 1980 and we decided that we had to do something to "mark" the moment so went to the hardware store and picked up 2 gallons of paint , Carson Graham colours grey and red and rollers and trays. John and I together with a couple others ( you know who your are) loaded the trunk of my car with the goods and drove to Argyle school  one night loading our trays and rollers  with the paint  and painted the front entrance in grey and red stripes. We were then sighted by students of Argyle and they chased us. I will never forget John and that smile being chased by 2 but still running and rolling the side of the school. Next school day they had an assembly looking for who did this and John and I sat there with paint on his jean jacket and my gym bag....NEVER CAUGHT !
I will always remember my friend for all the years we had  and memories shared . Rest in Peace  and I know you are still keeping the beat .

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I only met him twice. In 1978,  I was making  a short 16mm film as a UBC student.  16 year old John played the drums on the soundtrack. He was recruited by another friend who wrote the music. We recorded the music in my basement and I remember we put some spare used doors around him and the drum set to amplify the sound. I took super 8 film of the recording session, but I think it was so dark in that corner the film didn't expose much of John. I drove him home after the session. By car it was only a short ride. I got invited in and stayed a short while. When passing that spot on the highway, I often thought: that is where John Wightman lived. I still plan to transfer the student and the Super 8 film to video as it has been so many years since I have seen them. My thoughts are with John and his family.

You were my wingman, Wightman. We'd hang out with the dog, go to hockey games, musical performances, and restaurants. It won’t be the same without you.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about losing johnny..
We met working at mitsubishi and were fast friends. We stayed in touch when I moved back to Ontario.

Thank you for lots of fond memories from the 60's and 70's.  We had a wonderful childhood and playground growing up on Lloyd avenue.  You were always so sweet and I loved being with you. Love Lorie-Ann

Sleep well, John. You were always such a bright light.  You will always be remembered as a kind, jovial, wonderful guy. Condolences to all who knew and loved you.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of John, he was an amazing person.  John was one of my first childhood friends, he was my neighbour while living on Gladwin Drive in the 60s and early 70s.  Sending my sincere condolences to his family.  Rest in Peace Johnny, I will always remember your smiling face!❤️
