Helen Young Gardiner nee Arthur was born June 21, 1925 in Prince Rupert, B.C. She was the youngest of 4 children. She passed away peacefully on February 26, 2019 at 93 at Inglewood Care Centre. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Gardiner in l983.
Mom was brought up in Kitsilano and after marrying Dad in 1949 they bought a lot on Gleneagles Golf Course and built a Bob Lewis Post & Beam home where they raised their 3 children. In 1973 they moved to Shuswap Lake to develop their property at Gardiner Point, in Anglemont. Dad died suddenly in 1983 and Mom stayed at the Shuswap for another 12 years. She moved to an apartment in North Vancouver and spent summers at her beloved Shuswap until she was 92.
Mom will be fondly remembered by her family: children Grant (Deb), Lynn (Brian), and David. Her grandchildren Sarah (Jeff) Jamie (Natalie), Cameron (Annalise), Kyla (Jack) & Tess (Tayhler). She had 6 great grandchildren: Linkin, Rheal, Acelin, Rose, Spence & Charlotte.
Mom was the consummate home maker and hostess; friends and family were always welcome at her summer cabin on the Shuswap enjoying great meals and fun times. Mom’s late afternoon ritual always started with a gin and tonic on the deck before dinner.
Mom’s Celebration of Life will be at the Capilano Golf and Country Club on May 4 from 1 to 4pm.
