Don is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Elaine Campbell (née Galliford), his daughters Janet, Alison, Brenda (Brian), and grandchildren Graeme and Norah.
Don was born in Vancouver, the only child of Donald and Christina Campbell, who had each immigrated from Scotland and met here. He attended John Oliver High school and UBC, where he earned a degree in Chemistry in 1950. He worked as a chemist at Shell Oil. Don then joined the teaching staff at BCIT, in the Natural Gas and Petroleum department. While working full-time, he took night and summer courses and obtained his Masters in Education degree in 1975.
Don was introduced to Elaine by mutual friends and they married on February 2, 1963. They bought a house in the Westlynn neighbourhood in North Vancouver in 1965, where they raised their 3 daughters and created many happy family memories.
Don’s Christian faith led him to serve in various capacities in his churches over the years. At St. Andrew’s and St. Stephen’s, he led a Bible study and served on the Session.
In his long retirement, Don enjoyed simple pleasures: reading, walking, swimming, golfing, watching sports, doing crossword puzzles, and going out for coffee or lunch.
Don’s family is grateful to the staff of Lynn Valley Care Centre for their compassionate care for him for more than 2.5 years.
In lieu of flowers, consider becoming a blood donor as Don was for many years, or donate to a charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 28th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s and St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, 2641 Chesterfield Ave, North Vancouver.
