Del was born and raised in New Westminster. She trained as a nurse and also worked as a flight attendant. She stopped working to raise her family, but later returned to nursing and spent many years working at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver.
Del was predeceased by her parents R.R. “Dot” and Lil Cope, and will be lovingly remembered by Don, her husband of 64 years, her children Lorraine, Patty (Ross), Donna (Mick) and Bill (Kristin), her grandchildren Colin Ward and Paul (Klaudia) Ward of North Vancouver and Emily (Will) Archer and Tyler Hawke of Sydney, Australia, her brother Roy Cope, sisters-in-law Grace Johnstone and Anne Dobell, her “honorary” grandchildren James Aldridge, and Gillian and Quinn Ramsay, and many nieces and nephews.
In spite of health problems, Del was able to stay at home and managed to remain active until the very end. The family wishes to thank Del’s wonderful caregiver, Fely, whose presence made it possible for our mother to remain in her home in her last years, as well as the staff of Parkgate Break and the Margaret Fulton Centre in North Vancouver. Thanks also to the staff in the Emergency and Palliative Care wards at Lions Gate Hospital, for their care in Del’s final hours.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Del’s memory to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 3, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Boal Chapel in North Vancouver.
