Daughter of Stella Merchant and Julian Rowley passed away peacefully on October 16, 2017 at the age of 98. She was born on March 21, 1919 in West Palm Beach and was very proud that her parents were pioneers on Lake Worth. Muriel was a proud member of the Lake Worth Pioneer Association and took the honor for the last several years of being the oldest at their annual picnic and meeting. She met her husband, William Haines (deceased) when he was stationed at Camp Murphy (Jonathan Dickinson State Park) during World War II. They met at the Union Congregational Church where she was christened and remained an active member all her life. Her life has revolved around her church and family. Muriel graduated from Florida State in 1939 when it was an all girls’ college. She was a very caring fifth grade teacher and influenced positively many students.
Muriel is survived by her daughter, Alice Payne and son, William Carl Haines. She was a loving grandmother to Frank Ebersold, Sean Ebersold, Jennifer Haines, B.G. Payne and Elizabeth Simonson. Muriel was also a proud great grandmother to Emily and Sydney Ebersold and Emerson and Aubrey Payne.
A Celebration of Life will be held at her beloved Union Congregational Church on December 3rd at 12:15pm. The church is located at 5088 Summit Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33415. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice Jasmine Team for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Muriel’s name to Union Congregational Church or to Trustbridge Hospice, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
