August 18, 1943 – May 16, 2019
If one were to ask Jim what made him happiest, it’s a good bet he immediately would say, “Family.” A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Jim loved being surrounded by those dearest to him. As a people person, his personality shined whether entertaining at home, playing a round of golf, or socializing elsewhere.
Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Ray and Cecelia Kissel. He grew up with an extended family who gathered often. Relatives remember a young, blond-haired, blue-eyed boy with a sweet smile and a rambunctious personality.
When Jim was a teenager, his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Bowling Green State University and graduated in 1965 with a marketing degree. Back home, he began a career in advertising. Linda Churella, a local girl, caught his eye in 1966 and they married in October 1968. Their family became complete when son, Brian, was born in 1971 and daughter, Laura, arrived in 1975.
In 1972 the Kissels moved to Miami, where Jim continued in advertising and later became senior vice president of sales and marketing for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. They relocated to Palm Beach County in 1995, where he opened a Management Recruiters franchise.
Aside from his career successes, Jim had countless other talents as well, including art and writing. Another was music. He learned to play the accordion at age 9, and for decades entertained friends and family upon request. He also was proficient on the piano.
Jim ushered at church, and became a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing, cooking, and, most of all, spending time with those close to him — including the grandkids and their activities.
Jim will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his charisma, his humor, his optimism, and his storytelling. We all are better for having him in our lives!
Jim leaves his wife, Linda; son, Brian (Julie); daughter, Laura Wagner (Ken); grandsons Trey and Jake; granddaughters Olivia, Lily, and Emma; sisters Raidene Hebert (Jamie) and Robbin Gould (Greg); and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Donations in Jim’s name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeast Florida Chapter (https://alz.org/seflorida).
