Frank Ferlita

Frank Ferlita, of Hidden Key, North Palm Beach, died March 25, 2021. Frank was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Michelle Ryan Ferlita. He is survived by son Dr. David Ferlita (Dr. Christine), daughter Dorene Ferlita Leckey (Adam), and five grandchildren, Taylor, Bailey, and Dawson Ferlita, and Emily and Evan Leckey.

Frank was born in Ybor City, Tampa, to Peppino and Maria Governale Ferlita. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in Tampa and the University of Florida with a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1957. While in college, he was active in engineering and other campus organizations and was President of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.

Following graduation from the University of Florida, he accepted an offer to work for the Western Electric Company (an AT&T company) located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to provide engineering support to NIKE missile hardware production. He enjoyed his employment and challenges with the Western Electric Company and time in North Carolina, but his missed being near family and the weather in his home state; and after three years decided to return to Florida.

He moved to West Palm Beach to work for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft to work in aerospace in the early stages of liquid hydrogen rocket engine development. During his almost 40 year career with Pratt and Whitney, Frank managed projects that included rocket and jet engine design, development and testing.

He met his wife and love of his life Michelle after moving to West Palm Beach and they were married at St. Juliana Catholic Church in 1964. His life centered around family, his engineering career and community. He always said that he was born into a great family and was fortunate to have been part of a great family his entire life.

He traveled extensively, both for work and pleasure, and enjoyed gardening and all sports. He was a University of Florida football booster and long time football season ticket holder. Locally, for many years, he was involved and enjoyed managing and coaching youth baseball and softball in both North Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens.

Visitation for Frank will be held on Saturday, April 10th from 9-11 am at the Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 754 US Hwy 1, North Palm Beach, FL with service at 10 am. Entombment will follow at noon at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, 10941 Southern Blvd, Royal Palm Beach, FL.
