Evelyn “Evie” Kocot of Palm Beach Gardens Florida, passed away peacefully into God’s care on November 12th, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 23rd, 1943, to Raymond and Katherine Evangelista.
She spent her early years in Millbrook, New York where she attended high school. After graduating she began her professional career at Whalen Computer, where she laid the foundation for her career path. She later worked at Vassar College and concluded her career at Nordstrom after moving to Florida, where she not only found success but also cultivated many close friendships. In her role at Nordstrom, she was able to share her passion for fashion, always staying on trend and expertly navigating the world of style and shopping. Whether on the hunt for a deal or searching for the perfect outfit, Evie had an eye for fashion that was admired by many.
Evie’s love of animals was a constant thread throughout her life. Growing up, she had many pets, and as an adult, she continued her passion for rescuing animals of all kinds—furry and feathered alike. She raised and showed Dobermans in local dog shows, an experience she cherished. But perhaps her most special bond was with her beloved horse, Andy. With his spirited personality, Andy became not just a pet, but a companion in Evie’s life, and she dedicated herself to his care, from grooming him to taking him on trail rides and competing in shows.
Family was at the heart of everything Evie did. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, always proud of the accomplishments and endeavors of her children and grandchildren. Evie’s happiest moments were spent with her family, whether at home or traveling. She adored spending time with her husband Richard, daughters Elizabeth and Dawn, and grandchildren Raymond, Christopher and Rebecca. She had a particular fondness for the trips she took to South Carolina, home to New York, and the unforgettable journey to Italy with her daughter Elizabeth and granddaughter Rebecca.
In addition to her professional and family life, Evie had a passion for helping others. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and the warmth she brought to those around her. She was especially involved with her relay for life team “Dawn’s Dragonflies” where she raised thousands of dollars for cancer research in honor of her daughter Dawn Kocot. Whether through friendship, support, or simply offering a listening ear, Evie made a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Evie is survived by her husband Richard Kocot, daughter Elizabeth Ruyack, son-in law Richard Ruyack, grandsons Raymond and Christopher, and granddaughter Rebecca. Evie is predeceased by her daughter Dawn Kocot, nephew Gregory Evangelista and siblings Raymond Evangelista, John Evangelista, Mary Doyle and Lena Kristensen. She will be deeply missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends
