80 years old, of Juno Beach, FL, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014.
She grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey, and lived in New Rochelle, NY, until retirement, when she moved to South Florida.
Colette attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and then graduated from Mary Lawn of the Oranges High School. After that she attended St. Elizabeth’s College for Women.
Early in her career, Colette worked as an elementary school teacher. She was passionate about education and continued her own education to fulfill two Master’s Degrees. She also worked as a Director of Guidance at College of New Rochelle for many years, where she made friends for a lifetime. Colette was a longtime member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Colette’s hobbies included making flower arrangements, interior decorating, and shopping. She had an eye for color and was especially talented in accessorizing. She had a passion for orchids which included a vast collection of some of the more exotic varieties. Colette was always au courant on political events, loved to travel, and enjoyed the theatre. She was a compassionate woman who generously donated to many philanthropies and charitable organizations.
Despite the fact that Colette was handicapped from Polio as a teenager, she never let her disability to slow her down. The proof was in the fact that she loved to dance and was able to take center stage at the drop of a hat.
Colette loved dogs, and will leave behind her dear dog, Cappucino. Colette had a great sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and a high sense of style. She will be dearly missed by everyone that knew her. Colette’s circle of love and support included her best friends, their children, her students, and her neighbors.
Colette is survived by her cousin, Dr. Richard Conroy (Sharon); niece, Susan Frith (William); nephew, Christopher Conroy (Mary).
A Memorial Mass in Colette’s honor will be held on Saturday, June 14, at 11:00AM, in the chapel of St. Patrick Catholic Church, 13591 Prosperity Farms Rd, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410. In lieu of flowers, donations in Colette’s name may be made out to the College of St. Elizabeth, 2 Convent Rd, Morristown, NJ 07960.
