Barbara Wilma Chasan went to rest peacefully on December 13, 2023 at her daughter's home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The last words she heard were from her daughter, Dayna, praying in her ear when the nurse realized her breathing had stopped. Barbara was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 23, 1937, to Leroy Ernest Brennecke of Germany and Mildred Anne Lorence of Bohemia.
Barbara married Joseph William Chasan on December 24, 1960. They had two children together, Dayna Blythe Chasan and Dow Bryce Chasan.
Barbara has the hope of waking up in a new world of paradise here on earth.
The Holy Bible tells us at John 5:28-29 - Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out to a resurrection of life.
In her childhood, Barbara and her sisters, Dorothy and Millie, used to play bunco with their great-grandmother and aunts. In her younger years, she was the checker champion in the city of Evanston. She would also join choirs at churches with her sisters, and many times she was the soloist. During her teenage years at Shurtz High School, she was discovered by the Howard Miller Talent Show and participated in many musicals throughout the years. Her college career began at Stetson University, where she studied education and opera and was in the drama club. She continued her studies at the Chicago Teachers College, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in education B.A. Barbara furthered her studies at Wayne State University in Michigan, where she earned her Master's of Education M.A. Barbara also attended doctoral studies at NorthWestern.
Barbara was a teacher, a mother, and a friend. At age 47, she became an ordained minister when she was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness. She was always active in the ministry, preaching to others about the good news of God’s Kingdom coming to earth just like it is in heaven. She had many Bible studies and preached to foreign language groups. She also started the Russian Language Group in Chicago. You could always see her at the library or by the pier with the service cart. She loved traveling, every summer she would take her family to exotic places in Europe. They also traveled to all 50 states. Barbara was an avid Cubs fan, loved Disney, and enjoyed fine cuisine and wine. After teaching for 35 years, Barbara and her husband Joseph bought their dream condo on the ocean in Singer Island, Florida. Barbara and Joe loved to go to the beach and collect seashells and sea glass. After retiring to Florida, Barbara and Joe discovered cruising.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Dayna Chasan; granddaughter,Yasmin Chasan; sisters, Dorothy Panzske and Millie Tiili; sisters-in-law, Virginia Chasan and Patty Frances; nieces and nephews, Kathy Frank, Danny Frances, Robert Chasan, Philip Perkins, Jennifer Winkler, Tracy and Richard McCoy, Jason Dahl, Jordan Dahl, Scott Chasan, Kelly Panzske, Joel Dahl, Julie and Lance Donald, and Janalyn Dahl.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Chasan and her son, Dow Bryce Chasan.
A private memorial service to celebrate life and burial will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 754 US Hwy 1, North Palm Beach, FL 33408, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Followed by her burial with her husband, Joseph Chasan, at the South Florida National Cemetery.

A second celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 2:00 PM, where family and friends are invited to join. It will be held at the Palm Beach Gardens Kingdom Hall located at 14100 Palmwood Rd., Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410, honoring her life and memories. For out-of-town family and friends, a Zoom link will be available for the musical prelude beginning at 1:30 PM EST.
