Toni Abascal (aka “Mima”), 86, passed away peacefully September 28, 2015 surrounded by her family at home. She was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1929 and moved to NYC when she was 16 years old. She met and married her husband Elio Abascal and enjoyed 50 years of marriage as they settled in Miami. She was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and enjoyed many years of volunteer service with the “pink ladies” at Gardens Memorial Hospital. Toni was active with the Senior Center at PBGardens where she enjoyed playing bingo and poker every week. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Tracy-Desjardins; son-in-law Mick Desjardins; son, Elliot Abascal; granddaughter, Nadia Abascal; grandson, Michael Desjardins; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 9 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center, 754 U.S. Highway 1, North Palm Beach, FL 33408. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 10 at 12:00pm at St. Mark Episcopal Church, 3395 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410. Entombment will take place at 4:00pm on October 10 at Woodlawn Park North in Miami, FL. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Mark Episcopal Church, memo ECW.
