On January 8, 2020, the news would have been “86-Year Old Man Hit and Killed by Car in Little Haiti.” On June 20, 2020, the news was “The Pierre-Philippe Family Lost their Nucleus.” Louis Pierre-Philippe passed away after five months and 15 days of suffering as a result of injuries sustained from the accident.
Louis was born in Baie des Moustiques on February 2, 1933. He attended Ecole La Mennais de Saint-Louis du Nord, something for which he incessantly credited his father Dessalines Louis Joseph. Upon dropping out of school, he started his own neighborhood grocery store. He also owned one of the few bakeries in Saint-Louis du Nord.
In the sixties, he left Haiti for the Bahamas where he held casino and hotel jobs until he found passage to Miami in the eighties. In Miami, he worked at Regal Furniture until retirement.
Louis survived by his wife Victoire Pierre-Philippe; his children Luc Pierre-Philippe, Jeanette Pierre-Philippe, Roselaine Jean-Pierre, Lomer Pierre-Philippe, Louna Pierre-Philippe, Enrick Petit-Home, Benson Pierre-Philippe, and Lucie Pierre-Philippe; his grandchildren Jeanide Pierre-Philippe , Jeacklin Pierre-Philippe, Karty Pierre- Philippe, Fienol Pierre-Philippe, Lewis Pierre-Philippe, Dachena Pierre-Philippe, Tristan Pierre-Philippe, Stanley Chambers, Nyahly Petit-Home, Jojo Petit-Home, and Mat Petit-Home; great-grandchildren Rose Lunie Pierre-Philippe, Alexandra Milien, and Sanaya Pierre-Philippe; and niece and nephew Martine Vincent, Gustave Timothe, David Timothe, Dessaline Petit-Compere, Louisidas Petit-Compere, Yvon Geffrad, Ylrick Geffrad, Toussaint Geffrad, Rooseveld Geffrad, Ronald Geffrad, Midelson Geffrad and Marie Suzie Monnesthene. His resilience and joie de vivre were evident in his final moments.
