For over a century, with her gentle demeanor, Shirley spread love and kindness throughout her family and community. As a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt, her infectious smile and good humor touched those lucky enough to know her.
Shirley was born in New York and moved with her family to Key West in 1920 and Miami in 1925 at age seven. During the Depression, she had to work at a sundries store near the high school and made about $8 a week. Most of the money she made was handed over to her family to help them through hard times. She always put her family first.
In 1939 she married Morris J. Harris and moved to his hometown, Pittsburgh, but several harsh winters prompted a move back to South Florida to begin raising their children, David, Sam and Diane.
Her favorite time of the day was meal time, because it brought her family together. The only time she ever missed a family dinner was on election nights when she worked the polls. During her later years, she was happiest to be in the middle of her grandchildren and great grandchildren at all family gatherings
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Morris J. Harris and daughter-in-law Janice Harris. She is survived by her children David Harris, Sam and Shannon Daley-Harris, Diane and Bob Wechsler; grandchildren, Debbie and Rick Kaplan, Stephen and Roz Harris, Larry and Eileen Harris, Sindey and Chris Wolfe, Scott and Jill Harris, Adam Wechsler, Caryn and Ken Meinbach, Amy and Benjamin Dishowitz, Micah Daley-Harris, and Sophie Daley-Harris; great-grandchildren Mallory Harris, Brooke Kaplan, Jordan Kaplan, Jamie Harris, Elayna Harris, Michael Kaplan, Jacob Harris, Alec Wolfe, Betsy Harris, Julia Harris, Jason Harris, Kate Harris, Paige Harris, Jaden Meinbach, Jonah Wolfe, Jenna Meinbach, Jude Harris, and Dean Dishowitz; her sister Ruth Rosenthal and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She left us with a great legacy and a model of how to live life.
