Born in Jacksonville, Florida, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and worked many custodial jobs in Chicago and Miami. He retired as a custodian from the Miami-Dade County Public Schools. For the last two years, he was a resident of The Peninsula Assisted Living & Memory Care in Hollywood, FL where he was known for his dancing and humor.
Johnnie is survived by his children Phyllis D. (James) Higgins, Johnnie Franklin, Jr., Celestine (Charles) Jones, and Thelonious Kirby, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Washington, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Johnnie was predeceased by his parents, John and Corine Franklin.
