Joy Ellen Shew, 89, of Flippin, AR passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at the Hospice House in Mountain Home, AR surrounded by loving family members. Joy was born on December 17, 1934 in Lubbock, Texas on her father’s birthday; the daughter of Oral W. and Lucille (Butler) Luck. She married Jerry Shew on September 6, 1953 and they shared 67 years of loving marriage. Joy lived with her son and daughter-in-law (Johnny and Karen Shew) in Flippin, AR after moving from North Little Rock, AR in 2023 where her family had lived in since 1975. She was a faithful member of Faith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Flippin. Joy loved the Lord and had accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in her teen years. She spent countless hours in prayer for her family and others. She dearly loved her large family, especially cooking for and celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with all of them. She spent many years focused on visiting and helping her family members. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren have fond memories of her being very involved in their lives and loving them like a mother. She had the privilege of meeting two of her great-great-grandchildren who live in Republic, MO, where they took their five-generation picture.
Joy leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons Benny Shew of Conway, AR, Johnny Shew and his wife Karen of Flippin, AR, her daughter Brenda Gardner and her husband Terry of Clever, MO, nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Darrell Shew and his wife Beth of Amarillo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oral W. and Lucille Luck, her husband, Jerry Shew, a son, Jody Shew, and a daughter, Cynthia Frase.
Pall Bearers are; Joshua Shew Jr., Zachary Frase, Micah Shew, Jonah Henry, Isaac Henry, Andrew Henry, Alfonso Gonzalez Jr., Abraham Gonzalez, Joshua Shew, Jacob Shew, Jeremy Gardner, Aidyn Whaley, and Carter Baker.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024 with visitation beginning at 1pm and the service at 2pm at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Memorial Park Chapel in North Little Rock, AR.
