Jimmie R. Burgess of Jacksonville, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 27, 2023. He was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina on August 22, 1932 to the late Timmons H. Burgess and Daisy Yates Burgess. He is preceded in death by three brothers, RJ, Leroy and William; one sister, Jo Ann; and one grandson, Jeffrey C. Akins.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years retiring as MSgt followed by 15 years with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in Jacksonville, Arkansas and 5 years with the Saybolt Company oil inspectors.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gloria F. Knowles Burgess; son, Steven L. Burgess; daughter, Judy Burgess Akins; son-in-law, Ronald Akins, Sr.; son, Jimmie Burgess II; one brother, Bobby Burgess; grandchildren, Jimmie R. Burgess III and wife, Michelle, Ronald Akins, Jr. and wife, Hollie, Steven L. Burgess, II, Olivia Burges, Hali Free; one great-grandchild, Madelyn Paige Akins.
Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
