June 11, 1932 – December 1, 2021
Alan Haimes, 89, described by many as “the nicest guy I have ever met,” passed away on December 1, 2021 in Weston, Florida.
Alan was born and raised in New York City. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School and The Ohio State University. After working as an accountant in NYC, he realized he was “allergic to the cold” and moved to Miami, Florida where he met the love of his life, Ligia Covelli, from Colombia. They were married in November of 1962 and raised two sons.
In 1975, Alan co-founded Land ‘N’ Sea Distributing, Inc., a marine supply company, that started with 5 employees and grew under his guidance to a company that is currently a division of the Brunswick Corporation.
Alan was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He had the ability to make the lives of everyone around him better both emotionally and spiritually. Alan would see the best in every person and make the best out of any situation. He lived a life of gratitude.
Alan was also an avid fan of all sports, and especially loved watching his children and grandchildren compete. He loved swimming and running, and he participated in local 5Ks into his 80s. He is well remembered for his regular walks with his dog Bella and stopping to visit with anyone who passed by.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna Haimes, and his older brother, Stuart Haimes.
Alan is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ligia Covelli Haimes, their two sons, Charlie (Gail) and David (Dianne) Haimes, eight grandchildren: Casey (Chad), David, Nikki, Katie, Johnny, Brian, Daniel, and Haley, and great granddaughter, Chloe.
Alan will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him. His legacy will live on in their hearts and minds.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at 11:45 am at the Star of David Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, 7701 Bailey Rd, North Lauderdale, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in his honor.
The family of Alan wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Memorial Regional Hospital ICU, Select Specialty Hospital - Miami Lakes, and Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sunrise. You are all truly saints.
