Jon Boy,

I just found this page.  My cousin, my protector, my confidant, my advisor.  You were one in a million.  The love you showed everyone was so special, even if you were down.  The way you made Grandma’s day calling her “Sexy Lady”.  The way you made us all just stay in the moment.   You are truly missed.

Until we meet again.  With all my love.

Jackie and Jon's other family members and friends,

   My condolences on the loss of your brother, friend, family member.  I hope all of you can take some solace from these recollections and at least know that Jon left a strong legacy of service to others in his life. For me "Himmelblop" was my senior patrol leader back in 1978 when I joined Troop 36 of the Boy Scouts of America as a 12-year-old sixth grader.  I have already told some funny stories about Jon bombing down a steep hill- directly towards me- wearing a 40 lb. backpack and sending me off at a scout jamboree to go ask other troops if I could borrow a "left handed smoke shifter."
Jon also taught me to tie a bowline knot.  I remember this because I was 1. Not very deft with instructions and 2. not very mature and would easily lose focus when a peer came by and made a goofy face at me.  Jon stayed focused and must told me 5 times that that the rabbit goes up from the hole, around the tree, and then back down into the hole.  Jon never got angry or flustered with me.  Each time I screwed the knot up, Jon would just have start from making the loop and try again.  To this day I try to remember his patience when I teach myself.  Jon never expressed frustration with younger kids in the troops, never lost his cool, and never fulminated about how immature we were.  He would just calmly explain why we needed to learn to tie the knot, set up the tent before running off to a creek bed, or clean up cooking utensils before we went running out on a nighttime snipe hunt.  
I have no doubt that Jon’s patience helped immensely when he helped folks work a 12-step program or take steps in recovery.  The Boy Scouts and 12-Step programs both call on people to change their behavior and then help others make the same journey you made.  I am certain Jon was as wonderful a sponsor and friend as he was a Senior Patrol Leader and as proud of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout as Jon was, he should probably be prouder of all the people

The name Jon Himelblau means so much to me. His name brings joy, love, friendship, patience and the remembrance of his laughter to my heart, soul and smile. No one has ever had anything bad to say about Jon.  That's who he is forever. He and I were friends. He was the first to hold me when his friend, my daughter died.  He will always be that man fir me. A true legacy of so.eone I aspire to be like.  
I hope that everyone in his family and extended family knows I'm praying for them. For Jon's peace and theirs as well.

You were the best Jonny, you really were.  Always there for ALL of us even when you had needs of your own.  One of the most selfless human beings this world has ever known.  Not only my cousin, but a big brother too.  Go get pie with Grandma (aka Sexy Lady); Meet our Grandfather; Chase Rainbows with your Mom; Watch the stars with your Dad; and hug your older brother and sister; and watch over all of us.  Goodnight Jon Boy.  I love you so much.  🥹
