He was born to the late Speedy and Sarah Gonzales, April 10, 1927, in Greely, Colorado. Dan almost graduated from North Hollywood High School but was drafted into the military during WWII serving his country as a medic. He married the late Ernestine Jimenez in 1948, and they lived together in Granada Hills, and then relocated to North Hollywood the city where they first met.
Dan also known as POP, Papa Dan and the much favored Grandpa Dan was a Mason Contractor until he retired in 1987 creating many beautiful buildings in Southern California.
Papa Dan loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mealtime was his favorite part of the day. He was meticulous about his Cadillac, he loved to travel on his motorcycles, drink tasty gimlets, sneak a beer every once in a while , eat delicious fried eggs, and devour homemade hamburgers made by his grandson Aaron. His grandchildren remember him as a hard worker, the bravest person they knew, and are impressed by how many times he has watch the western, Quigley Down Under.
Daniel is survived by his five daughters: Glo of San Luis Obispo (married to Ern Finan), Nora Gonzales of West Hills, Rainie (married to William Mount) also of West Hills, his beloved caretaker daughter Danielle Duboff ; and Alesia (married to David Allbaugh), of Pennsylvania. Grandpa Dan also is survived by 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Grandpa Dan will forever remain in our hearts.
A gravesite funeral will be held at 1p.m. Monday, June 17th at Valhalla Funeral Home in North Hollywood.
