George August Wertz

George August Wertz died on January 10, 2018 in N. Ft Myers, Florida at the age of 91. George was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 12, 1926. In 1944, he enlisted in the US Navy and was assigned duty as Seaman 2nd Class. After the war, George began work with Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company in Baltimore, MD, where he was to work for 38 years. He started as a linesman, was promoted into engineering management, a position he retained until retirement. George and his wife Gloria, who pre-deceased him in 2014, moved to N. Ft Myers, FL in 1990, to live next to his identical twin brother, Edward and his wife Gloria. George was an avid golfer, still playing as often as five times per week as late as October this year. He had two holes in one, the latest coming just two years ago. George is survived by two children, David (Mary Lou) Wertz and Keith (Lisa) Wertz, grandchildren Katie Wertz, Jacqueline Wertz, Timothy Wertz and Kristin Wertz. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to F.I.S.H (Friends In Service Here) in Pine Lakes, North Fort Myers, FL. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to the National Cremation and Burial Society.
